I had one the other day that I first thought to be a wrong and very dark, but then Martin went in to catch a load more all varied in colour from mottled bronze to bright gold. In the end they all looked the same but as if the pond had a very old population in the dark fish and less aged looking youngsters coming through who'd reached the same weigh faster. Most of my crucian angling was done over 35 years ago when I believe the hybrid problem was far less endemic. I am now lucky enough to live near a tiny pond, with some tiny crucians in it ( none caught over about 8 oz so far). But they are the most beautiful little fish I have ever seen in a UK water.
