Snowdrops...

Hard going for river roach...

Snowdrops sprouting upon the bank can only mean the one thing, Spring calling time on Winter. Well, at least the very poor fishing that has prevailed since Christmas will soon be a distant memory; shame that it'll be the close season before you know it
, and then it's fish spotting, or nothing. I do feel sorry for the barbel lads, they've had such a crappy time of it, and it doesn't look like things will improve much before the season hits the buffers, you know. Ah well, That's what you have to suffer if you are a one species wonder. Half a year on, and half a year off. I'm glad that I'm into roach...!

A good hard winter is the greatest leveller, don't you think?

The forecast was not so very bad. 'A little rain and sleet around elevensies, snow by noon, hill top accumulations, and all over by supper time, no need to worry'.

I decided that a little spinning was to be the order of the morning, but by eleven it was plain that my silver Mepps was not pulling any punters, and so I gave up the job. So much for big perch. Then I tried trotting maggots, had an encouraging chublet second or third cast, but after a further ton of fruitless passes, she'd proved to be the only taker. I decided to ledger...

The forecast was correct, for a while. At noon it duly rained, then sleeted, and finally...

It snowed...

And it snowed...

Luckily I had some boiled sweets...

A few fish in the very midst of it all...

A comfortable shelter...

And a way out...!
